Due to our continued success and growth we are seeking candidates for the Smith Engineers in Training Programme (EIT) and also candidates that can be fast-track trained through our product specific training courses. For this reason we would like to encourage both Engineering Graduates and candidates that have some oilfield/rig experience, e.g., Mud Logging, Mud Engineering, L/MWD Engineering to apply for these positions. The position of Field Engineer is office based but requires frequent visits to our warehouse/workshop facilities and drilling rigs to evaluate products/tools.
The EIT training will be up to 12 months comprising class room based training, department and field training in global locations where individuals will be trained in our product lines. Upon completion of the training programme candidates will be required to work in any GeoMarket within the Area, or to relocate back to their allocated GeoMarket should business needs dictate.
In the position of Field Engineer you will be required to provide engineering technical support over multiple product lines (Borehole Enlargement, Drilling Tools, Wellbore Departure, Fishing and Well Abandonment, Tubulars and Surface Equipment). Job responsibilities/tasks include the following:
• product performance evaluation and recommendations for design modifications to existing products
• creation of Field Test Plans
• field data analysis and reporting, providing updates on product performance
• root cause analysis, preventative action and design modification recommendations
• software support on programs that help optimise product performance, for example tool hydraulics and BHA configuration
Communication of customer and product needs to the Design/Engineering Departments, along with informing local Operations/Sales on new technology and designs is essential to this position.
Our recruiting standards are high and we seek individuals who posses the following attributes:
• Candidates must be technically qualified to MSc or BSc/BEng in Petroleum/Mechanical or an equivalent related Engineering Degree
• Exposure to oilfield rig operations, mud logging, mud engineering, or M/LWD engineering would be preferred but not essential
• Good problem solving/analytical skills
• Capability to form relationships between multiple groups along with having strong communication skills within the group and between other groups
• Ability to work effectively in a team and also unsupervised
• PC literate and good knowledge of MS Office applications
• TOFEL certification (Test of English as a Foreign Language) required if English is second language
• Flexibility to travel internationally
• Willingness to relocate where business needs demand
