A position is immediately available for a Senior Geologist, working in our clients International Exploration New Ventures Department (ENV). Reporting to one of the Technical Team Leads in ENV (or fulfilling the role of Technical Team lead for the right candidate, reporting to the VP- ENV). The successful candidate would be working in a multidisciplinary group of professionals involved in the identification of drillable prospects in existing acreage as well as assessment of new exploration opportunities. The position is ideally suited to a candidate who is a motivated, high-energy individual wishing to advance their overall knowledge in global geology as well as gain some exposure to their International business. This position is Calgary based but the successful candidate would be expected to be available for a certain amount of international travel.
Essential requirements of this position include: the ability to quickly evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of a basin, often under time pressure in a data room setting; to be comfortable and effective working with varying degrees of data coverage; to generate high quality plays for investment consideration; and to balance sound business judgment with good technical skills.

Required Skills/Experience: The ideal candidate will have 15 - 25 years of experience, primarily in international exploration. Experience in developing exploration strategies and consequently prioritizing opportunities will also be important. At least 5 years of international experience will be essential.
The candidate should have good working knowledge relating to petroleum systems and geochemistry; clastic and carbonate sedimentology; application of sequence stratigraphic principles to seismic interpretation; AVO and DHI concepts; exposure to pore pressure prediction techniques; and the principles of structural geology.
Practical experience in computer mapping through Unix and/or PC based systems (e.g. Geoframe, Arcview) is important.
Selected candidates will display exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and an eagerness to be a contributing member of a highly effective team of professionals.
Required Qualifications: A graduate degree in geosciences is a requirement; additional post-graduate education would be an asset.
