A. Position Purpose

Responsible for corporate accounting and internal reporting for one of the nation’s largest construction and electric power companies, the financial controller will oversee the accounting, budgetary, and auditing departments, and hold responsibility for producing critical financial reports. These include reports for Upper Management and Ownership, but also profit and loss statements, balance sheets and financial prospectuses to predict the company's financial performance over time. Additionally, the controller will be responsible for completing and submitting all necessary financial paperwork to federal and state regulatory agencies as needed.

B. Position Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

§ Preparing financial reports, budgets, cost reports and financial forecasts on a regular basis.

§ Overseeing the accounting staff, and the financial analysts.

§ Ensuring that the decision makers in the company understand the financial implications of the missions they set for the company in a specific period.

§ Approves finances to be used in specific projects by the firm based on estimates made by the accounting department.

§ Ensuring that the financial records are accurate, and that there is fiscal responsibility within the company’s operations.

§ Ensuring that the books of accounts are compiled every end of the month, and at the end of every financial year.

§ Analyzing and interpreting financial data and recommending changes to improve systems and financial performance. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

§ Maintaining vendor and customer relations.

§ Reviewing bank reconciliations, loan schedules, management fees, etc.

§ Mentoring accountants for purposes of ensuring that their accounting and analysis duties are done well.

§ Spearheading special projects as needed.

C. Position Requirements

Functional/Technical Skills

§ MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio)

§ SAP (or related SQL based software packages) competency is desirable.

§ Thorough knowledge of GAAP principles and budgeting process.

§ Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, multi-task across many assignments and delegate

§ Technical writing skills producing clear and unambiguous deliverables

Experience

§ Good understanding of financial reporting, high-level mathematical and problem-solving skills and experience effectively communicating complex financial concepts to individuals outside of the financial sector

§ Experience overseeing all financial departments of a large (300+ person) company, and producing critical documentation.

§ Professional accounting experience, preferably in an EPC or Electric Utility environment.

§ 7+ year’s minimum experience in Accounting and/or Financial Management.

§ 2+ years minimum Management, Team Lead, or other equivalent supervisory experience.

Education/Vocational Training

MBA highly preferred. A four year degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline is required. CPA certification or ICAN preferred.

Environmental/Physical Demands

· Business travel required (up to 30%)
